Increase of the National Minimum Wage to €920

The Government has set the value of the Guaranteed Minimum Monthly Remuneration (GMMR) for 2026 at €920 per month. This change represents an increase of €50 compared to the previous amount and will enter into force on 1 January 2026.

The measure was established by Decree-Law published in the Official Gazette (Diário da República), implementing the Medium-Term Agreement for the Improvement of Income, Wages and Competitiveness (2025–2028).

Relevant Legal Provisions:

  • Value and Entry into Force: The GMMR is set at €920, with effect from 1 January 2026.

2. Impact on Public Contracts: The Decree-Law provides for an exceptional regime for the extraordinary update of prices in public service procurement contracts.

This regime applies to multi-year contracts in which the salary component indexed to the GMMR is a determining factor in the formation of the contractual price. The services covered include, but are not limited to, cleaning, security, surveillance, building maintenance, and canteen services.

The stated objective of the decree is to continue the policy of wage valorisation and to ensure the maintenance of service quality in public contracts affected by the update of the GMMR.
